Our bodies are alkaline in nature, because the processes that we undergo are majority alkaline processes (digestion, absorption, utilization, and elimination). Problems arise when the body becomes too acidic. This toxic level of acidity, known as acidosis, comes from acid-forming foods. What are these acid-forming foods? Highly processed foods including meats, some grains & wheat, refined sugars, and dairy. And most Americans eat these foods daily! What then happens is that acidity leads to inflammation and mucus and causes our bodily systems with all the organs, glands, blood supply, lymph tissue, muscles, bones, etc. to not function properly. And that's when you get conditions and "dis-eases".
Detoxification is the process of cleansing your body of toxins and wastes with electrical, energy-giving foods, which are your plant-based foods. This process comes with the realization that the body is the healer and energy is the true source. You then understand the true cause of disease --- the destruction of energy. Sustaining that energy is being mindful of what you eat, drink, breathe, put on your skin, and even what you think and feel. But I'll save those other components for another blog!
So now is the time for you to pay attention to what your body is telling you. There are a number of ways your body tells you that it's time to detox. Those signs can include sleeping problems and fatigue, obesity, excessive thinness, bags under eyes, rashes, insatiable cravings, bad breath and body odor, recurring headaches, autoimmunity, digestive problems, constipation and/or diarrhea. So what is your body telling you?
Your next question may be, well how do I start? Being healthy is simple, yet people spend millions of dollars trying to achieve it. Eat your fruits and veggies! Mainly fruits. Fruits are the real healers. It's so much energy in them! And the more energy your body has, the healthier it will be. Most doctors will tell you that you can't eat too much fruit because of the sugars in them. Well, I am here to tell you something else. They have natural, simple sugars. When you eat refined sugars like white sugar in sodas and sweets, those are complex sugars. The body has to do extra work to break those down into simple sugars. The sugar in fruits are already in simple form so it requires less energy to break down. Boom! Your body doesn't have to work as hard. When you are detoxing, you want to focus on raw, living, plant-based foods.
Cleansing your body is a process. It takes time to undo the damage that has been done, considering the extent of one's condition(s). There will be a period that I call the healing crisis. Once you give your body what it needs and you eliminate all those bad foods, your body will get to work. It'll go into overtime! And during this period, you may undergo symptoms such as fatigue and wanting to sleep (but keep in mind your body works best when you are at rest), headaches, going to the bathroom frequently (better out than in), possible aches and pains, some rashes (your body detoxes through the skin as well, being that it is the largest organ), weight loss, and expect to see mucus, maybe in other areas like your stools and urine. But like I said before, your body will get to work so don't be afraid. This is normal, natural, and positive. These signs all mean that your body is cleansing as fast as it can in any way that it can. And the symptoms are only temporary. Setback for a major come-back right? No one said it would be easy, but it is definitely worth it, and your body will thank you for it!
Trust in your body's innate desire to heal.
Here are some helpful tips for your detoxification journey:
1. It's okay to start small. 7 days or 10 days. Gradually get into cleansing especially if you never have before. Then do it periodically and increase your days.
2. Focus on fruits. The more fruits, the faster and more powerful your detox will be. You can even do only fruits. Even one fruit!
